Please note: Limitations of the historic pathways to and throughout Maymont’s Japanese Garden along with the private gardens on tour Sunday and Monday prevent wheelchairs and other assisted devices from accessing that portion of the Regional Conference. The Saturday morning lecture series in Maymont’s Robins Nature Center is fully accessible.

History of Maymont by Peggy Singleman, Director of Park Operations and Horticulture. 

9:00 AM: Greeting by Marisa Rodriguez, NAJGA Manager

9:10 AM: Private Japanese Garden by Junko Liesfeld

9:35 AM: Our Private Japanese Garden by Debra & Scott Martin

10:00 AM: Japanese Plants for the Japanese garden and American garden by Peggy Singleman

10:25 AM: Coffee Break

10:45 AM: Structures in Japanese Gardens by Peter Wechsler

11:15 AM: How Japanese Gardens have Influenced my Work by Jim Lampl

12:00 PM: Lunch Break

1:00 PM: Demonstration of Woodwork, Bamboo Fence & Pruning

3:00 PM: Ikebana of Richmond Demonstration

3:30 PM: Japanese musical performance (koto)

4:00 PM: Japanese musical performance (wadaiko) 

5:00 PM: Depart Maymont for Hilton Downtown Richmond

Sunday, April 24th

7:45 AM: Pick-Up at Hilton Richmond Downtown

8:30 AM: Arrive at Scott & Debra Martin’s Garden.

9:30 AM: Leave the Martin garden.

11:20 AM: Arrive at Morven Garden at University of Virginia

Arrive at Junko & Joe Liesfeld’s garden

End of Garden Tour

Optional: After the Liesfeld Garden Tour- all Garden members are invited to enjoy a cocktail hour at the Liesfeld Garden.

4:30 PM: Depart Liesfeld Garden for Hilton Richmond Downtown 

Monday, April 25th 

7:45 AM: Pick Up at Hilton in Downtown Richmond

8:15 AM: Arrival at Domson Garden

9:15 AM: Departure from Domson Garden

9:30 AM: Arrival at Cerruti Garden

10:30 AM: Departure from Cerruti Garden

11:15 AM: Arrival at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden 

12:15 PM: Option- Lunch on your own at the Lewis Ginter Cafeteria. Note- Our tour will officially conclude at 12:00 PM, but those who would like to stay can have lunch on their own in the Lewis Ginter Cafeteria. We will then arrange carpools that will return you to the Hilton.
