Description:

Contributed by Antonio Viglietto:

At the entrance of the Maison de la Photographie there is a square karesansui  枯山水 garden, designed by Keiichi Tahara and built in 2001.  The gravel is quite rough, with unusually big average dimension and of black and white color. Most probably the black & white design was inspired by the nature of the House (Maison de la Photographie).

A metallic sheet separates the black and white sections, drawing a curvilinear pattern. In the garden there are also two metallic poles, quite tall (around 3 meters) and vertically planted, and a frame with a b&w image of a calf head.  The garden’s level is higher (1 meter around) of the entrance path of the House, therefore it is difficult to look at the garden and appreciate the pattern. However, from the windows of the first floor it is possible to have a better view.
