Description:
Located in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park, the Japanese Friendship Garden (a.k.a San Kei En) celebrates the friendship between San Diego and its sister city, Yokohama. Interest to create a Japanese garden in this area was inspired by the 1915 World Exposition “Japanese Tea Pavilion.”
The 11 acre garden features beautiful stone and plant compositions, koi pond, flowering cherry grove, tea pavilion and exhibition hall.
The mission of the Japanese Friendship Garden Society of San Diego is to educate, engage, and inspire present and future generations of diverse backgrounds about Japanese culture and community legacy through exhibits, programs, and the preservation of a Japanese garden.
